Cream of the crop
When the heat is on, the most difficult decision is one scoop or two?
Testing the freshest, fruitiest, tastiest icecreams in town was a tip-top job for the team.
Mixed-berry chocolate icecream from The Greens, Parkview Gardens
Choose from vanilla, chocolate or a guest flavour (such as lime or boysenberry swirl) icecream and a long list of frozen berries and watch as the icecream machine blends your favourites into a swirl of dairy delight. With a choice of plain or waffle cones, and icecream or frozen yoghurt, this fruit and vege shop serves the best icecreams around.
Price: small $3.80, large $4.60. Address: 586 Harewood Rd
Mixed-berry icecream from Berry Fruity
This trailer operation must do a roaring trade over summer. You can choose from raspberry, boysenberry, strawberry, blueberry, boysenberry and banana, but mixed berries always seems the best of all berry worlds. Choose between a cone of icecream or frozen yoghurt and enjoy. Price: $5. Address: City Mall
Berry forest gelato from Pizzacarto's Mothership
On a search for gelato, we thought this Italian pizzeria looked promising. While the term gelato was used a little loosely - more as the Italian word for icecream than for authenticity - we chose the flavour with the same low fat content (8 per cent) as a gelato, served in a tub. Price: from $2. Address: corner Waimairi Rd & Homestead Ln
Pear, honey and citrus sorbet from Taste@Twenty
We had previously stumbled upon this tub of temptation, made by the team at Taste@Twenty, but simply had to go back for seconds. Whether it's pear, honey and citrus sorbet, the decadent chocolate brownie and caramel or something else, you won't be disappointed by this deli's delicious concoctions. Price: $4.50. Address: 20 Colombo St, Cashmere.
