Mike Salmon's 1960 Lambretta li150 started life with him as a "box of bits".

Now rebuilt with new racing engine parts imported from Europe and the UK, it is anything but a moped.

In standard form, the Lambretta had about 6 horsepower with a top speed of around 80 km/h.

"Now it's somewhere nearer 25 horse power and overtakes cars on the motorway,'' Salmon says.

"Not that I've ever been over 100 km/h, because that would be illegal.''
