Reports of groping and indecent behaviour in the Port Hills had police on high alert this month.

In court today police charged a 63-year-old man with 10 charges of indecent assault.

The man's name is surpressed.

Most of the alleged offences took place in the last six months, but one complaint goes back to 2010. Police were still talking to some complainants and further charges have not been ruled out.

The man was remanded on bail and is to reappear in the Christchurch District Court on Monday 11 February.

Police have thanked the media and the public for assisting police in providing information about the alleged offender.
