Traffic delays are expected at the Eastgate Shopping Centre intersection tonight as work crews begin the ground work for pipe installation.

SCIRT contractor Downer will install a major new wastewater pipe through the Linwood Ave/Aldwins/Buckeys roads intersection.

The  Pressure Main 11 will run from the Christchurch Wastewater Treatment Plant at Bromley to the pump station in Randolph Street, Woolston.

Crews will work through the night to 6am tomorrow with dewatering and pumping equipment.

The night job was to reduce disruption for commuters.
