Concerns are mounting for a Hillmorton Hospital patient who has been missing for five days.
Detective John Borlase said Raymond Stewart Powell, 65, left the hospital last Friday and travelled to Ashburton where he was seen later that day.
Powell could still be in mid or south Canterbury, and is described as European, 178cm tall and of medium build.
"At this stage we do not have serious fears for his safety or well-being, but he does require medication and we are anxious to locate him as soon as possible."
Anyone who has seen Powell or has information on his whereabouts is asked to contact police on 363 7400.
He was last seen wearing a white and blue checked shirt, blue jacket with green trim, light-coloured trousers and white sneakers with blue stripes.
