A digger caught in power lines cut power in southern Christchurch this morning.
A Fire Service spokesman said the accident happened on Owaka Rd, Hornby about 11.10am.
"The digger was caught up in high tension wires. The guy was still inside the cab. The power authority responded. They arrived and the driver was removed," he said.
The man was checked by ambulance, the spokesman said.
Orion said power was cut to approximately 14,000 customers in south-west Christchurch after the accident.
All power was restored within 20 minutes.
