Whitney Houston has cancelled her upcoming New Zealand performance.

The R&B diva was scheduled to perform at the Bowl of Brooklands in New Plymouth on March 6 as part of her Nothing But Love tour.

But in a press release issued today, promoter Andrew McManus said a dispute with the venue had led to the cancellation of the show.

"Whitney (Houston) and Andrew McManus are extremely sorry to have to disappoint all of Whitney's many New Zealand fans on this occasion," the statement said.

On Monday, a notice on the Ticketmaster website raised concern with fans when it said tickets for the show were off sale until further notice.

The New Plymouth District Council's general manager of customer services, Cathy Thurston, said it was noticed ticket sales had stopped yesterday.

"We sent an email to the promoter asking for more information but we haven't heard back yet," she said last night.

Attempts by the Taranaki Daily News to contact promoter Andrew McManus and NPDC's manager of business developments and events, Garry Sharpe-Young, who is overseas, were unsuccessful.

Houston's Australian fans have already been dealt a double blow with the cancellation of two concerts scheduled for Perth early next month.

The cancellations were blamed on scheduling conflicts and a shortage of transport to carry sound and lighting equipment to the city.

Houston has more than 400 awards including two Emmys, seven Grammys, 24 Billboard Music and 22 American Music awards.

Her hits include I Will Always Love You, I Wanna Dance With Somebody and Greatest Love of All.

Houston would still perform six dates in Australia.

Full refunds were available from Ticketmaster.

Don't worry NZ - Whitneys promoters have done you a favour - her brisbane concert was terrible - she was like a drugged up loser on stage - couldn't stand up straight, couldn't sing a song in one go - mumbled and stumbled all over the show. You have lost out on nothing

You should check out her Korean concert on youtube. Can't even sing the high notes of the Bodyguard song in the finale.

Whitney cannot sing anymore. Her voice is shot. She tours out of country cause of bad reviews in US and England.

I would agree that the seats up the front were sold for far too much money, maybe thats why the show got cancelled, didnt sell enough front row seats, I could have gone and seen lady gaga, John Meyer, and paid for flights and a motel at the cost of just a front row seat for Whitney,

@Andy #52 & Dolly #39 Ditto.

You only have to read what happened when she tried to sing in New York last September (1st) to realise that buying a ticket was a total waste of money even she had arrived.

@ cmas #61. How can new plymouth be more out of the way than auckland. its not very logical.. i think you mean just out of the way for you and all aucklanders.

Just replace the show with two hours of a car alarm. Would be much easier to listen to.

No sad loss she is not coming to the bowl....past her best by date anyway...

I wish some of you would lay off that JAFA crap. I am an Aucklander, ok...and I think the New Plymouth bowl is one of the best concerts venues in the country. So if you're irriatated by what someone says, just respond to the individual. How'd you like your kids to be called a JAFA and then have to explain to them what it meant? I've had that happen. Get OVER it people!
