Prime Minister John Key appeared on his show to raise New Zealand's profile, now one man has made it his mission to bring David Letterman to Aotearoa.
Sporting and television identity John Dybvig has launched a one-man campaign on YouTube to convince the host of the popular Late Show to make the trip downunder.
Dybvig's videos explain the quirks of New Zealand culture, and feature cameos by former All Black captain Buck Shelford and PM John Key.
During his September appearance on the popular show, Mr Key tried to lure Letterman to New Zealand, saying New Zealand is a convenient 20-hour flight away" and, "if you go in the next 30 days, I'll pick you up at the airport personally".
Mr Key said Letterman had told him that New Zealand was his favourite country that he has never visited.
However, the talk-show host reportedly has a fear of flying.
Mr Key, also the Tourism Minister, was on the show to try and raise the country’s profile.
Dybvig says that, although Letterman's CBS producers have seen the videos, there's no word yet on whether the talk show host will take the bait and head to New Zealand or not.
Stuff.co.nz is awaiting comment from CBS.
Meanwhile, CNN has reported that a man accused of trying to blackmail Letterman has pleaded guilty to attempted grand larceny, and been sentenced to six months jail.
Robert "Joe" Halderman had tied to extort $2 million from Letterman in return for keeping quiet about his sexual affairs, CNN reported.

I can't believe some of the negative comments.
Letterman? Pfft, I'm going to write to Ellen and get her to come instead!
I cannot believe how many sad, sad people would bother to put JD and co down. Good on ya John for doing this... pity there are so many bleak and bitter kiwis still out there.
The late show works through the studio audience. A room full of kiwis wouldnt have the same energy as the New York Audience, and the show would fail like Lettermans Oscar performance.
I'd rather stick pins in my eyes
Forget Letterman - how about John Key, I heard a bit off a local radio station today about Johns' appearance on the show...John even said he would meet David L at the airport if he came here. LAME WOD!
Good stuff John Dybvig! Hope you pull it off!!
Just checked out the terms of conditions on writing a comment on this page and found the following condition... "(c) which is (or could reasonably be expected to be) defamatory of any person" Therefore I guess I can't say much about him, however... I thought to be considered a comedian you have to actually be funny.
Awesome effort John Dybvig!

Why would Letterman come here? NZ isnt funny, its just pleasant and bland, two things that guarantee the death of a quality satirist. If he isnt into fishing he might as well stay home, maybe he can soak in the international atmosphere of the mighty hub that is Wellywood.
