A free concert at the Dux de Lux on Wednesday by Australian singer-songwriter Leena (Thavison) could provide a glimpse of a future star.

The 28-year-old has been making music for years, mainly in and around Perth, and has only recently made recordings. Last year she released a debut EP Mean Old Clock and was chosen as support for Tim Finn's Australian shows.

The Dux de Lux show is Leena's only New Zealand performance.

"I've got relatives in Christchurch, the person who got me into music lives there – he lived in Leeds when he got me into music. He used to lock me in a room and make me listen to the Sex Pistols. I'm grateful for that now," Leena said. "In preparation for my New Zealand showcase I've been listening to a few Christchurch bands. I really like Delaney Davidson, the Eastern Family and the Ragamuffin Children. I'm really pleasantly surprised by how good the music is, I can't wait to have a look around."

The show starts at 8.30pm.
