Exhibition of Chch's history
Images of buildings on show in Worcester BlvdFRANCESCA LEE
An exhibition that brings together the "layers" of Christchurch's history will open tomorrow in Worcester Blvd.
The exhibition features 56 panels with images of historic Christchurch buildings, mostly in the central city.
"We realised we had a huge number of artworks that had images of early Christchurch and Christchurch buildings," Christchurch Art Gallery curator Ken Hall said.
"The quake has given us new eyes for our surroundings. There are new meanings and significance attached to those works after the quake, so we thought, 'Let's do this outside exhibition'.
"We put this exhibition together with the view that we are trying to work out what this place is and what it has been.
"It's like seeing all the archaeological layers of Christchurch."
Fellow curator Sean Duxfield said "most of the images are of buildings that we no longer have".
The exhibition will be on display until September 16.
