Oft-outspoken festival promoter AJ Maddah tweeted last night that the line-up for his Soundwave 2013 festival, announced this morning, would sell out in an hour.

Some boast, but it is all but certain there's something to it.

Among those announced were metal superstars Metallica, who sold out four Allphones Arena dates themselves on their last visit in 2010.  It had been rumoured the Californians will be playing their 1991 self-titled album - which has sold more than half-a-million-copies in Australia alone - in full.

Also along for the ride will be Linkin Park, Anthrax, Garbage, A Perfect Circle, Paramore, Duff McKagan's Loaded, Flogging Molly, Sum 41, The Lawrence Arms, Lucero, Six Feet Under and many more. The long-awaited return of reunited pop-punk icons Blink 182 had been confirmed in recent weeks, along with a drip feed of other names including Stone Sour, Cancer Bats and the Offspring.

The festival has played host to the likes of Iron Maiden, Queens of the Stone Age, Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson and Faith No More in recent years.

Tickets are priced at A$189 including fees and public transport and go on sale Thursday, August 23 with a presale commencing seven days prior.

Brisbane: Saturday, February 23

Sydney: Sunday, February 24

Melbourne: Friday, March 1

Adelaide: Saturday, March 2

Perth: Monday, March 4
