A woman has died after falling seven storeys from a central Auckland car parking building.

A police spokesman said they were alerted to the incident, on Kitchener St, by ambulance staff at 8.58am.

The woman was taken to Auckland City Hospital with critical injuries, but died soon after.

Police said some of her clothing had been found on the top floor of the Wilson Parking building near the Auckland Art Gallery.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and police are trying to find and notify next-of-kin.

Cordons were in place around the building while the scene was being cleared.
