Two motorcyclists have been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after a crash on State Highway 5, police say.

A motorcyclist, travelling in a group of seven, crashed into two others at Wairakei, near Taupo, about 3.25pm.

The two injured motorcyclists have been taken to Waikato Hospital.

No one else was hurt, police said.

The highway was closed for about two hours after the crash.
