Rolleston has been rocked by a "moderate" aftershock this evening.

The magnitude 3.7 shake hit 25km west of Christchurch at 5.36pm.

It was 10km deep and reported as being "moderate" in intensity.

On Geonet's website, 126 people reported as having felt the quake.

"Woah who else felt that #eqnz was reasonable in Rolleston?" Twitter user Camille said.

"First quake I've felt in months," Kalena tweeted.
