One person has died after the truck he was driving crashed in Northland this morning.

Police said the truck crashed around 9.39am in Tramline Rd, Ruawai this morning.

"The truck ended up in what's been described as a drain," Inspector David Laumatiahe said.

It's believed the man was driving a Fonterra milk tanker.

No-one else was injured in the accident. The man's next-of-kin are being contacted and the serious crash unit are investigating.
