A man is in hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a car in Christchurch overnight. 

Police say he walked out onto Breezes Road in front of a passing vehicle and was knocked over, at 12.30am today. 

The man has suffered serious injuries as a result and is currently in Christchurch hospital receiving treatment.
