Suppression has been lifted on the name of the man accused of assaulting a nine-year-old schoolboy found distressed and injured at Holme Station Bridge near Timaru on November 15.

Matthew John Krouse, 26, of Timaru, appeared in the Timaru District Court today on a charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He was remanded with no plea to February 12 for a post-committal conference.

At his first appearance on November 21, Judge Joanna Maze ordered a psychiatric assessment to consider his fitness to stand trial.

At that appearance his counsel J Lovely said the accused's recollection of events was sketchy.

His arrest followed an alleged abduction of the boy, who was found at Holme Station Bridge, more than 15 kilometres from Timaru by road.

The boy was found at 4.20pm, after leaving Oceanview Heights School at 3pm.
