The man killed when the truck he was driving was hit by a train on the outskirts of Woodville has been named.

Woodville man Glen Roberts-Lyons, 38, died after the light truck he was driving was hit by a milk train about 5pm at an uncontrolled rail crossing in Powdrell Rd, off State Highway 2, just outside Woodville.

His truck, which was carrying a load of wood, was pushed off the crossing onto the side of the tracks and was not visible from SH2.

There were no lights or barrier arms at the crossing to either warn or stop Mr Roberts-Lyons.

Constable Christopher Wakelin, of Woodville, said the crash would be investigated to try to establish why the man drove onto the tracks at that time.
