At least one person suffered moderate to serious injuries after a car collided with a truck on State Highway 99 this afternoon.

Emergency services received a call at 3.45pm after the accident happened on the Riverton-Wallace Town highway in Southland.

The truck was on fire when emergency services arrived.

One person had to be cut out of a vehicle with the jaws of life and was taken to Invercargill Hospital.
