Three cars were set alight, threatening a nearby house in Northland this afternoon in what is thought to be a gang-related incident.

Two fire crews were called out to Moerewa just before 3.30pm and dealt with the situation within half an hour.

It is believed a house was evacuated and a fire communications spokesman confirmed the blazes were thought to be gang related.
