A man who barricaded himself in a Blenheim motel room and threatened to set off a bomb has turned himself in to police.

The incident began around midday and saw police cordon off streets around the Colonial Motel, on Main St, in central Blenheim.

Police said the man gave himself up and the cordons were being removed.
