Searchers looking for a 62-year-old woman who went missing three days ago in Kaimanawa Forest Park have found her alive and well.

The woman, from Turangi, and her companion, a 60-year-old Auckland man, went into the Kaimanawa Forest Park near the end of Kiko Road on Saturday to camp overnight.

They were due to return home on Sunday.

"She and the search team which found her are being picked up soon by the RNZAF helicopter," police said.

"Other teams have walked out. The woman is said to be fit and well but more will be known when we get her to Turangi."

About 6.30pm on Saturday the pair split up about 200 metres from their campsite.

"She was to walk the short distance back to camp, while he headed off for an evening hunt. When he returned to camp later that evening she was nowhere to be found," a police release said earlier today.

The man spent all day Sunday looking for her and called police on Monday to report that she was missing.

Police said police - including a search and rescue dog - and 25 LandSAR volunteers from Turangi, Taihape, National Park and Taupo were involved in the search today.

Taupo-based Greenlea Rescue helicopter with night vision googles assisted in the search last night.
