Another two people have been killed in separate crashes on North Island roads - just 24 hours after three lost their lives in two crashes the night before.
A woman was killed after her car and a truck collided at Ormond in Gisborne, just after 12.30am today.
Emergency services were called but the woman, the sole occupant, was dead when they arrived.
Police said the collision caused the truck, which was carrying empty milk crates, to tip over. The truck driver suffered no injuries.
And a driver died after crashing on State Highway 1, near Taupo yesterday.
Few details are available but the highway was reduced to one lane around the crash scene, about 2 kilometres south of Hatepe.
Only one car was involved and the sole occupant died at the scene before emergency services were able to get there.
Police said the collision caused the truck, which was carrying empty milk crates, to tip over. The truck driver suffered no injuries.
The serious crash unit is investigating both crashes.
The names of the dead won't be released until police have informed next of kin.
