An Invercargill family that faced eviction on Monday over a bond blunder but remain at the property because the eviction order has been misplaced has been asked to attend a Tenancy Tribunal hearing this morning.

Brent Webster said he was asked to attend the "fast-tracked" hearing in Invercargill at 9am to "sort out the mess".

He had planned to go back to the tribunal to voice his concerns but had not yet started an application.

"I don't know what is happening. I guess I will have to wait and see," he said.

It is understood the proceedings would have been instigated by the tribunal adjudicator.

The bond on his Vernon St property was lost when property company Easystart Rental Management went into liquidation after failing to lodge the money with the Department of Building and Housing.

In an attempt to recoup their loss, the Websters withheld rent for four weeks, but the company that took over their property management, First National, took them to a tribunal that ordered the rent be repaid in instalments.

Then a missed payment, which Mr Webster believed was caused by a late pay cheque going into his account over Christmas, led to the eviction order.
