Firefighters battled two suspicious fires overnight in Christchurch.
Fire southern communications shift manager Andrew Norris said they were called to a fire at a "derelict house" on Avonside Dr at 9.50pm. The property is red-zoned.
The house was well ablaze when they arrived, and Norris said it collapsed while firefighters were at the scene.
It is the fourth red-zone house to go up in flames this year, after a Kaiapoi house was destroyed by suspected arson in February and two red-zoned properties on New Brighton Rd were torched earlier this month.
Then at 10.40pm the fire service was called to a second fire in a group of four flats on Gloucester St.
Norris said one of the flats was on fire but it appeared no-one was home at the time.
Fire investigators would be at both scenes today.
