A Queenstown police officer who allegedly racially abused an Malaysian taxi driver in Queenstown has pleaded not guilty.
Constable Jeanette May McNee, 43, also know as Jenny, has been charged with using insulting words after the incident on November 3.
A charge sheet said McNee told the driver, ''f... off to India''.
''You come here and get all the Kiwi jobs. Eat your f...ing curry and f... off to India. This is a Kiwi job.''
She pleaded not guilty to the charge before a scheduled hearing in the Queenstown District Court this morning. She opted for a judge alone trial and was next expected to appear in court on September 1.
McNee remains on leave without pay, unrelated to the incident.
Queenstown Taxis managing director Grant Scannell presented police with a video from inside the taxi which, he claimed, showed an assault as well as the use of offensive language. However, she was not charged with assault.
The maximum penalty for the use of offensive language charge was a $1000 fine.
