Fears of serious flooding and high rainfall in Christchurch this weekend may be unfounded as MetService says a rain warning is not likely to be issued.

The Christchurch City Council had been unclogging drains and clearing drainage systems ahead of a forecast 75mm rainfall starting tomorrow.

However, a MetService duty forecaster said it was unlikely 75mm would fall. He expected a moderate amount of rain to fall in Christchurch overnight on Sunday.

''The problem is with Christchurch it doesn't need a serious amount of rain to cause problems, but at this stage it doesn't look like any warning will be issued,'' he said.

Is the mayor correct to put libraries, pools and community facilities ahead of the Town Hall?

Absolutely, they're far more important

I think funds should be split between those facilities and the town hall

No, the Town Hall should be rebuilt first

Just demolish the Town Hall completely instead of rebuilding
