Knitting, festivals and partying are all on the cards today for Christchurch and the weather might co-operate too.

MetService is predicting a high of 16 degrees Celsius today with some cloud in the sky and a bit of a chill in the air. Wear three layers of clothing to stay warm, but there shouldn't be any rain.

The turn in the weather is good news for all the Winter Solstice events on today.

The Lyttelton Festival of Lights continues today with a Mid-Winter Market (10am-1pm), a quiz at 7pm and a film screening of Goodbye Pork Pie tonight.

If you're into cycling, there's a solstice Night Light Bike Ride starting at 5.3pm in North Hagley Park. Dress your bike up in lights for a casual evening ride.

If you're more into staying warm and getting creative, it's also World Wide Knit in Public Day. The Wigram Air Force Museum is having a knit-in from 1pm.

There's no shortage of things to do today, so get out there and get stuck in!
