LIGHTING UP: KidsFest kicked off with the More FM Lantern Parade.

School holidays have kicked off for children and parents across Canterbury with KidsFest flying to the rescue.

The festival offering more than 240 events in two weeks launched with the More FM Lantern Parade last night.

The parade started outside the Christchurch City Council (CCC) building in Worcester Boulevard about 5.30pm and finished up in Cathedral Square.

The KidsFest programme features activities ranging from sports to stage shows and crafts to cooking for little or no cost.
