Police will wait until extended family are informed before they release the name of a 58-year-old Arrowtown man whose body was pulled from the Shotover River yesterday.

The body was spotted between Tucker Beach and Big Beach by a commercial jet boat driver at 10.38am.

The driver called police, who scrambled to the scene on the true right, or Queenstown side of the river, on a four-wheel-drive and quad bike. The man's vehicle was parked near the spot where the body was found.

The body was brought along the riverbank to Watties Track where it was loaded into a Coronial Services vehicle about 12.30pm.

Sergeant Steve Watt said the man's death was not being treated as suspicious and was referred to the coroner.

"Immediate family have been informed but the man's name will not be released until extended family have been told," he said.
