Man freed from wreckage at Templeton crash

A man has been flown to Christchurch Hospital with moderate chest injuries after he was freed from his vehicle with the jaws of life.

The man, in his early 40s, was "encased" in his car after it collided with a 4WD at the Dawsons Rd and Jones Rd intersection in Templeton about 4pm today.

Firefighters from Rolleston and Sockburn spent about 40 minutes at the scene where they prised the vehicle open to free him, a fire service spokesman said.

A Westpac Rescue Helicopter spokesman said the woman driving the 4WD was taken to Christchurch Hospital in an ambulance with minor injures.

Police closed the road as they cleared the scene.
