Hagley Oval can tick off another milestone ahead of next year's Cricket World Cup.

The floating tensile roof for the oval's new pavilion was completed this week. Canterbury Cricket Trust chairman Lee Robinson said the heavy rain Christchurch had experienced in recent months made constructing the roof, which uses 2.5 tonnes of fabric, tricky.

Hagley Oval will host three games during the World Cup, including the opening fixture between New Zealand and Sri Lanka on February 14.
