The World Press photo exhibition has opened in Christchurch giving Cantabrians a close-up look at the images for the first time.

The exhibition is open in the James Hight Building at the University of Canterbury, and showcases the best press photos from around the world.  It is widely regarded as the most prestigious photojournalism award in the world, receiving over 10,500 entries annually. 

The photos range from images of war and heartache to moving images of individuals and animals.

Check it out on campus weekdays 8am-9pm, Saturday 10am-5pm and Sunday 10am-9pm.
