Firefighters and a built-in sprinkler system stopped a Hornby insulation factory from going up in flames after a fire broke out in an oven.
Fire Service shift manager Andrew Norris said five crews were called to the fire to Tasman Insulation New Zealand on the corner of Halswell Junction Rd and Shands Rdt 1.55pm.
They were alerted by the factory's smoke alarm system after an oven caught fire.
Norris said three people were unaccounted for when firefighters arrived but were soon located. Everyone managed to escape the building free of harm.
Harewood and Sockburn crews contained the blaze qwithin 10 minutes, with assistance from the factory's sprinkler system.
Two crews remain at the scene.
