A man who was left fighting for his life after becoming jammed between a wall and a cherry picker has returned to work almost two weeks since the accident.

Work Safe New Zealand is continuing to investigate the July 25 incident on a construction site at the McKeown fuel and chemicals depot in Halswell Junction Rd.

The Calder Stewart contractor was in Christchurch Hospital's intensive care unit following the incident, in which he became trapped between a building wall and the picker.

Calder Stewart regional manager Adrian Mathieson said the worker had recovered from the accident and had already returned to work.

The injured man was the boss of the contracting firm.

Mathieson said an investigation in to the incident could take up to six months to conclude.
