Local photographer Dennis Radermacher's image of a lone tree is among the finalists of a national photography competition that is being exhibited in Christchurch.
More than 3000 entries were received for the annual New Zealand Geographic Photographer of the Year competition, and images from the 42 finalists will be on display in Cathedral Square for the next three weeks from today.
Convenor of judges James Frankham said that the images featured a range of subject matter, from an albatross walking on water to the aftermath of a tornado.
"These are images that communicate the essential qualities of life in New Zealand - unusual, fragile and often poorly understood," he said.
The free exhibition is open from 10am to 6pm daily until August 31 and the public can vote for their favourite image online at Photo Comp.
