The theft of specialist medical equipment used to manage chronic pain has left a 22-year-old Sydenham woman ''suffering significant effects'' police say.

Rebecca Jacques' spinal cord stimulator programmer, worth $30,000 was taken during a burglary in the early hours of Thursday July 31.

The programmer is one of only three in New Zealand and police say it would be of no functional use to anyone else.

Two Xboxes, a laptop, a hard drive, perfume and a gym bag were also stolen in the burglary. 

Anyone with information that may assist in the recovery of the property should contact Christchurch Police on 03 363 7400.
