Feisty Environment Canterbury councillor Jo Kane has tendered her resignation as the council's deputy chairwoman, citing communication problems between her and chairman Sir Kerry Burke.
Burke is facing a challenge to his own leadership, with the council preparing to discuss a vote of no confidence in him at a meeting three weeks today.
Kane, who has offered to go for the top job, told The Press this morning her resignation as deputy would have to be accepted by a majority of regional councillors at the same meeting.
She said in her resignation letter to Burke it had become clear she did not have his confidence.
