Up to 8000 "boys" of all ages enjoyed a day of rock-climbing, rock music and other boyish fun in Christchurch on Saturday.
Adam Bougen, 12, above right, said the Boys' Day Out was a welcome change from attending more girly expos like the craft show with his mother, Linda.
He scaled the climbing wall, went on the inflatable gauntlet and was wowed by the motorbike and jet-ski displays.
Linda Bougen said being a single parent meant it was harder to access boys activities for her son so the Boys' Day Out was the perfect opportunity for him to let off some steam.
Girls like Kelly Gilbertson, above left with sparring partner Geoff Aitken, had a little fun of their own getting physical in the boxing ring and on stage for the bikini contest. The 22-year-old said she landed a good punch on Aitken.
Gilbertson won the bikini contest, earning her $1000 and a trip to Auckland to shoot for the cover of NZ Performance Car magazine.
Born in Christchurch, Gilbertson said she had done a little modelling before, but being on the cover of a magazine would be a first.
"It was a really good day. It was such a good turnout," she said.
Other activities included paintball, a dive tank and beer garden and a pamper tent for the ladies.
