Two young boys have admitted setting fire to a Christchurch intermediate school, say police.
The art room at Casebrook Intermediate School, in the northwest of the city, was gutted by a blaze which started about 7pm yesterday.
Detective Paul Johannsen of Papanui police said the boys had this afternoon admitted setting the room on fire, along with starting some other small vegetation fires in the area.
He would not say how old the boys were or whether they attended the school. They would be dealt with by Youth Aid, he said.
Police were not looking for anyone else.
