Smokers wanted for trial

Christchurch smokers are being recruited for New Zealand's biggest trial of nicotine-replacement therapy.
The University of Otago study is testing a mouth spray, Zonnic, used every time a smoker wants to light up.
Researchers are looking for 1600 participants in Wellington and Christchurch who will use the spray and get regular counselling to help them quit smoking.
The trial follows another University of Otago study showing the benefits of snus – small sachets that smokers keep in their mouth, allowing nicotine to be rapidly released.
Researcher Dr Brent Caldwell said results so far showed most smokers preferred the new products over nicotine gum, which was available from pharmacies and doctors.
Only 10 per cent of people who use nicotine-replacement therapy stop smoking long-term.
