Faumuina awards prize

Former discus world champion Beatrice Faumuina is more accustomed to receiving awards than handing them out.
However, the roles were reversed yesterday as the double Commonwealth Games gold medallist happily gave the first prize in the St Martins School colouring competition to six-year-old Paris Duerden.
Faumuina said Paris called her entry "the Humungous Fields".
Her drawing depicted a discus thrower competing with the sun high in the sky.
"I was quite impressed," Faumuina said. "All the children put a lot of effort into the colouring competition, but Paris was the lucky recipient."
Faumuina, who is in Christchurch for tonight's International Track Meet at Queen Elizabeth II Stadium, is a regular school visitor. She is an ambassador for Fonterra and Sanitarium's KickStart Breakfast schools programme.
