Gordon still in race
Christchurch mayoral candidate Liz Gordon is not pulling out of the race after veteran politician Jim Anderton confirmed he wants the top job.
The former Alliance MP said she was a better candidate than Anderton and had a right to show that during the October election campaign.
On Anderton's plans to remain as Wigram MP if elected mayor, Gordon said Christchurch needed "a high-quality, fulltime mayor, and for nine years".
"Mr Anderton cannot realistically meet these criteria," she said.
Gordon said the pair had different constituencies.
"I want people to vote for me as a local businesswoman, educational leader and as a person with 30 years of experience as a community activist."
