All Blacks Richie McCaw and Dan Carter have been given the Andy Warhol treatment by a Christchurch artist.

Aaron Tomlinson will showcase stylised images of the two All Blacks and other rugby-angled pieces during an exhibition the opens in the city on Saturday.

Tomlinson's said although rugby was "a huge part of our culture'' there wasn't much rugby-art out there.
An avid rugby supporter, Tomlinson said the paintings were "a way of honouring the game as part of our heritage in a contemporary style''.

The event was timed to coincide with the All Blacks' Bledisloe Cup match against the Wallabies at AMI Stadium on August 7.

The exhibition opens at Miles Toyota on the corner of St Asaph and Montreal St on Saturday and closes August 14.
