Christchurch's mayoress says Facebook is "an amazing thing" as she enjoys an avalanche of best wishes on her 41st birthday today.

"I feel like it has been a good day in the life of Jo Nicholls-Parker," she said.

The mayoress said she was amazed when she found scores of birthday wishes on her Facebook page this morning.

Amongst about 50 Facebook well-wishers was friend Joe-Anne Pascoe  who posted: "Blessings to a fabulous Mayoress of ChCh City! Xxx".

"Facebook is an amazing thing on days like this, I have been enjoying it all morning," Nicholls-Parker said.

She said her husband, Christchurch mayor Bob Parker, took her on a coffee date to Vic's Café this morning and the pair would be celebrating at Cook'N' with Gas on Worcester St tonight.

"It's just going to be me and Bob. It's always good to find an excuse to whisk him away from work for an evening," she said.

The mayoress said she had not opened any birthday presents yet, but would be when she got home from work tonight.

There's a free fb web app that let's you pre-schedule happy birthday wall posts so you don't forget your friends birthdays. It's called birthdayFB. You can use it at http://birthdayfb.com

What a gem. I show articles like these to my mates in Aus for a laugh. Content such as this is a real crowd pleaser. Problem is that it makes ChCh people look simple..

NON STORY! Embarrassing standards of journalism in this country.

But who picked up the tab this time Jo!

Let us not forget that it was Jo Nicholls-Parker, who only last year was insisting it was “perfectly legit to take some perks” such as coffee and muffins because she works fulltime for the city for free.

It was the Press that revealed Nicholls-Parker sat in on breakfast meetings with Mayor Bob and CCC CEO Tony Marryatt, and spent ratepayer money on muffins and coffees. However, the couple later had to pay back more than $600.

Yet despite that media scrutiny, a CCC insider suggests that Bob & Jo still have very healthy appetites, courtesy of the ratepayers and given the splendid job that Bob’s done as earthquake MC, who is going to be so mean spirited to question!

Well, I for one would certainly like to know who’s picking up the tab this time Jo?

Are you kidding? What a complete non story. The cynical side of my nature wonders if someone at the Press is not that fond of the 'mayoress' and this story has been published to encourage ridicule.

As if the story isn't bad enough, along come comment posters sucking up to a complete nobody.

What a pack of grouchs. Barely civil and no warm feelings of humanity to anyone. Be nice to each other!
