Potter wand up for auction
Harry Potter fans have the chance to savour the magic with a signed replica wand up for grabs in an earthquake fundraiser.
Alan Rickman, who plays Professor Severus Snape, has donated the wand to the Stars4Kids auction.
He also sent his "good wishes to the people of Christchurch".
The item is up for sale on eBay Australia and will coincide with the release of the final film, Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows – Part 2.
Stars4Kids was launched in May by Mandy Cook, whose children attend two quake-damaged Christchurch schools.
The fundraiser has already brought in more than $10,000, with all proceeds going to Avonside Girls' High School and Shirley Primary School.
Cook said the wand donation was "amazing".
"This is an incredible opportunity for a Harry Potter fan to get a piece of memorabilia that money just can't normally buy," Cook said.
"I hope bidders go nuts."
The wand comes in a velvet-lined box and is a replica of the one seen in Ollivander's Wand Shop in the hit films.
The Stars4Kids auctions are running on eBay and Trade Me.
Cook said she hoped the wand would draw "widespread interest".
