Canterbury butcheries bring home the . . . prizes

It's official: The best bacon in New Zealand comes from Christchurch.
Canterbury butchers took gold for every category of the 100 per cent New Zealand Bacon competition this year.
Corey Winder, of Ashby's Butchery, won the supreme award and also gold for the middle bacon and dry-cured middle bacon categories.
Winder hopes the medals will boost trade, which has slumped since the February earthquake.
"It is just the boost we needed. After the Christchurch earthquake, we lost customers . . . Hopefully, winning these awards will remind people that we are still here," he said.
Chris Brown, of Ellesmere Butchery in Leeston, won gold for streaky bacon of the year, Brian Jennings, of Redcliffs Butchery, won for shoulder bacon section, and Brydon Heller, of Hellers in Kaiapoi, won for middle eye bacon of the year.

Great stuff Christchurch butchers, and only hope you use bacon from free range pigs.
