Shipping containers acting as earthquake barriers in Sumner are being transformed into an open-air art gallery.
A stretch of about 160 shipping containers on Peacocks Gallop in Sumner could become home to works by leading New Zealand artists.
Two artworks by Christchurch artists adorn the containers and another three are expected in the next two weeks.
A large work by artist Tony Cribb featuring an elephant is one of the two installed this week.
Curator and Sumner gallery owner Bryan L'Estrange hopes to slowly fill the entire stretch of containers with artwork.
