Picton tramper survives 10m fall
DIFFICULT RESCUE: Paramedic Johnny Mulheron straps a tramper onto a stretcher in the Wairoa Gorge yesterday. The man suffered serious injuries after he slipped 10 metres down to the riverbed.

A 58-year-old Picton man has been airlifted to Nelson hospital today after he fell ten metres while tramping in the Wairoa Gorge near Nelson.
The man slipped from the track and tumbled to the riverbed below.
His fellow tramper ran out for an hour to raise the alarm.
The Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter was sent from Nelson to lrescue the injured man.
A St John intensive care paramedic was winched down over 110 feet to the riverbed of the Wairoa River.
He suffered multiple injuries and was treated by the paramedic in the riverbed before being stretchered to the helicopter, and flown to Nelson Hospital for further treatment.
