A Christchurch man has died in a motorcycle accident in Vietnam.

David Andrew McMillan Read, 44, died after his motorcycle hit a tree in Hoi-Ann, Vietnam, on February 7.

His sister Lesley Finlay said Read was heading home from teaching English at a local university when his motorcycle slid into a tree killing him instantly.

There were no other vehicles or motorcycles involved.

The Kiwi had been living in Vietnam for a couple of years.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade is helping the family find out more information about the exact circumstances, she said.
